Ambassador Neijon Rema Edwards Presents Credentials to President Tsai

On Friday, February 16, 2019 at the Presidential Palace in Taipei, ROC(Taiwan), Ambassador Neijon Rema Edwards presented to President Tsai her credentials by which President Hilda C. Heine appoints her Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to the Republic of China (Taiwan).

In her remarks, Ambassador Neijon Rema Edwards lauded the excellent bilateral relations between the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Republic of China (Taiwan) that has over the 20 years been further strengthened through increased cooperation in various programs such as health and education, fisheries and maritime security, trade and commerce, climate change and environment, as well as through enhanced people-to-people exchanges and vowed to do her utmost to further expand and deepen bilateral ties. Ambassador also reiterated the GRMI’s resolute support to Taiwan’s quest to uphold its sovereignty, values of democracy and aspirations to become a member of the international community of nations.

President Tsai welcomed Ambassador Edwards and pledged Taiwan’s willingness and commitment to establish closer relationship with a path towards sustainable development. Tsai also commented on the progress and ever-deepening in relations between Taiwan and the Marshall Islands as witnessed through the recent signing of bilateral agreements on the visa waiver program, coast guard cooperation, and police cooperation. Tsai pledged Taiwan’s ongoing commitment to establish a closer relationship towards a path to sustainable development. Tsai also expressed gratitude, through Ambassador Edwards, to President Hilda C. Heine for the GRMI’s continuous and strong support to Taiwan’s efforts at international participation.

The event was witnessed by several high level representatives from the ROC Government and the DCM of the RMI Embassy in Taiwan.
